2:30 p.m. DOORS Reception
April 23, 2017
The DOORS Committee (Diocese of Ontario Refugee Support) is very pleased to announce the appointment of a new Refugee Sponsorship Coordinator. DOORS serves both the Anglican and Roman Catholic Dioceses in Eastern Ontario as the Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) for refugee resettlement.
Please join us in welcoming Mimi Merrill. She joins us with a combination of both professional and personal experience regarding the refugee system and new immigrants to Canada.
No stranger to the refugee sponsorship process, Mimi has gone through the experience herself and understands the struggles and rewards that come with the journey. She arrived in Canada as a teen-aged refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and has lived in many different countries throughout her childhood. She is well accustomed to the challenges that come with being new in a country and adapting to and learning about a new culture.
Mimi obtained a degree in Political Science from the University of Guelph in 2010. Her previous experience has included work with the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign, University of Alberta and Ernst and Young all of which have given her years of experience with Office Administration and interacting with individuals from many different backgrounds. Most recently Mimi has owned a small event planning business here in Kingston.
DOORS has been without this vital role since the sudden passing of our founding member, Debra Fieguth, last May. We believe that Mimi is particularly well suited to carry on this important work, and will make vital contributions to our refugee settlement process.
Mimi lives in Kingston with her husband and her 4-year-old daughter. She actively volunteers at her church as leader of the women’s charity organization. She loves being a Canadian and enjoys traveling around the country.
Located in the Great Hall.
Time: 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
