Hailed as “an excellent conductor and inspiring educator,” Roland Graham is a pianist, composer, conductor, and creative impresario whose work spans concert production, performance, choral direction, and arts entrepreneurship. Based in Ottawa, he is the founding artistic director of Doors Open for Music at Southminster (DOMS), now in its 13th season presenting 40 concerts annually, as well as the Master Piano Recital Series, Rideau Chorale, and Ottawa Choral Workshops.
His pianistic passions lie in the works of Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Scriabin, which he has performed in concert series and churches across Canada. His performances and original compositions have been broadcast on CBC Radio in both Ottawa and Montreal. His catalogue of compositions includes keyboard miniatures, commissioned vocal and choral works, and Canterbury Canticles, premiered in 2005 by the Anglican Chorale of Ottawa at Canterbury Cathedral in the UK.
Roland holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in piano performance from the Universities of Ottawa and Montréal, where he studied with Jean Desmarais and Marc Durand. From 2009 to 2022, he served as Director of Music at Southminster United Church, where he established the church as a primary music hub. In 2020, he led a successful fundraising campaign to acquire a Steinway Model D, helping to cement Southminster’s status as one of Ottawa’s premier concert venues.
As a choral conductor and teacher, he has taught and presented choral works including Carmina Burana, Vivaldi’s Gloria, the Requiems of Mozart, Duruflé, and Fauré, and many more, and has led international choral retreats in Italy and Central America. He continues to carve a distinct path as an artist who builds initiatives with lasting impact on his community.
